Special Commission Urban Landscape/City Scape Otepoti
Through the windows of the old rooftop I could see the expanse of a city rich in culture, history and diversity. Creating a cohesive composition from the expansive viewpoints was exciting. I did not want to miss a detail.
This work is a piece about, not just what I could see, but how I felt about the interesting and multi faceted city of Dunedin, viewed from the roof top where I was living for a few years.
‘ To capture the soul of the city, one must look to the mountains beyond. Old city, new city, nestled in the arms of the landscape ‘ JSB

Noosa to Hokusai
Acrylic on Canvas
80cm x 140cm x 4cm
The most famous arts wave in the world was created between 1829 and 1833 by Katsushika Hokusai, a Japanese woodblock carver and printmaker. Noosa to Hokusai fuses contemporary subject, being Noosa Beach and headland in a very traditional Baroque style painting, presenting a contemporary take on local subject.
I like to paint the world around me in ways that inspire and inform. Morphing woodcut and painting, my two main mediums.
